Well, I’m way behind on my blogging folks. I’ve recently relocated to sunny Florida, started a new job which includes a huge commute, and just haven’t cooked that much. I’m fixing to get back on track. I started last week by grilling some steaks in the brief break in the rain (ha ha, Sunny Florida – yeah right) and serving them with yummy gnocci w/grilled pepper, onion and mushrooms. Yesterday I made homemade pizza – one tomato and mozzerella and one everything (sausage, onions and peppers). I’m looking forward to getting more cooking time in in the next few weeks.
I’m also way behind on the whole – providing nutrition information stuff…
Some updates – we no longer use a food pyramid, it’s now a plate. Dietitians have been using the plate icon for a while now to teach people how much to eat. Half of your plate should be non-starchy veggies, a fourth starchy stuff like rice, pasta, potatoes, and the other fourth a lean protein. Grabbing a piece of fruit and a glass of low fat milk will round out your meal! And the size of the plate matters folks!!! Calling a platter a plate does not make is so! Plate size does affect the amount you eat. Check out some antique store china some time…the older plates are much smaller than the modern day stuff.
Anyways, I’m off to the store for some supplies…gotta get cooking!
Have a great 4th!!!
